Italian-Jamaican reggae artist Alborosie has hit a major milestone in his musical career, as his iconic track Kingston Town recently surpassed 100 million streams on Spotify. This reggae anthem is the first song by the artist to reach this impressive figure on the platform.
Released in 2008 on his debut album Soul Pirate, Kingston Town offers a raw and heartfelt portrayal of life in Kingston, Jamaica’s capital. Through candid lyrics, Alborosie addresses universal themes such as poverty, crime, social inequality, and police brutality. His use of local slang and vivid imagery effectively transports listeners to the bustling streets of Kingston. Musically, the song blends traditional reggae with modern production techniques, featuring a sample from Scientist's When I Love.

Reacting to the achievement, Alborosie, whose real name is Alberto D’Ascola, expressed his gratitude in an interview with DancehallMag. "I’m very happy about Kingston Town reaching this milestone. I work hard alongside my team and musicians to travel the world and spread the message. I feel very blessed and want to say thanks to everybody. We’ll keep going, keep pushing until we reach 200 million," he said enthusiastically.
The official music video for Kingston Town has also garnered over 87 million views on YouTube, further cementing the track's lasting impact among reggae fans worldwide.
Soul Pirate is not just about Kingston Town. The album also includes standout tracks like Still Blazing, Herbalist, Rastafari Anthem, and a remake of Bob Marley’s classic Natural Mystic featuring Ky-Mani Marley. These songs helped establish Alborosie as one of the most influential reggae artists of his generation.
Following Soul Pirate, Alborosie continued to expand his discography with acclaimed albums such as Escape from Babylon (2009), Sound The System (2013), Freedom & Fyah (2016), Unbreakable: Alborosie Meets the Wailers United (2018), For The Culture (2021), and his latest release Destiny (2023). In 2011, he won the prestigious MOBO Award for Best Reggae Act, further solidifying his impact and influence in the music world.
With Kingston Town, Alborosie continues to solidify his place as a key figure in reggae, and his drive to surpass new milestones proves that his message is far from finished resonating across the globe.
