In June 2024, during his visit to France, Jah Light had a fateful encounter with reggae legend Winston McAnuff, who was in Paris for several concert dates. One evening, at the home of their mutual friend, Sergent Tchatcho, the three artists shared stories of their childhoods in Côte d'Ivoire. Amidst the playful banter, Sergent Tchatcho teased Jah Light, prompting Winston to step in with one of those wise Jamaican sayings: “Don’t put Jah Light in the dark!”
Those words sparked something deep in Jah Light. Seizing the moment, he picked up his guitar and began to hum a melody. Winston, caught up in the magic of the moment, joined in for an impromptu jam session. Little did they know, they had just created the foundation for their next single.
A month later, Winston McAnuff made his way to Abidjan for a special performance at AZK Live, the home ground of Jah Light. The two reconnected, their bond stronger than ever. Jah Light invited Winston into the studio to record the track they had birthed in Paris. They also brought in Asko Dibanko, Winston's tour manager at the time, whose vibrant energy and melodies in French added an extra layer to the song.
Thus, “Don’t Put Jah Light In The Dark” was born — a powerful call to let the children of Jah shine in the light. This collaboration brought together three artists, two generations, and two reggae worlds, uniting the vibes of both Côte d'Ivoire and Jamaica.
